On 20 September 2012 the opening of the exhibition of hunting trophies and a set of knives of President Algirdas Mykolas Brazauskas was held on the fourth floor of Medininkai donjon.
On 27 September 2012 Medininkai Castle was inaugurated. The opening ceremony was attended by guests from the Ministry of Culture, Department of Cultural Heritage, museums, Vilnius team of State Border Guard Protection, and representatives of the Border Guard School. Interest in the castle attracted Lithuanian collectors, restorers, historians, journalists, artists and other public figures.
On 29 September 2012 the two-day festival of the historical reconstruction of the Grand Duchy “Medininkai Castle in the 14th century” was held. The castle territory hosted a medieval craft village, where visitors could get familiar with the ancient Lithuanian handicrafts, plating of the bonds, using archery and tasting medieval dishes. The event was open with a fire rite, hymns were sung to Grand Duke Gediminas on the castle grounds by Kūlgrinda group, visitors could enjoy the presentation of the Western Europe weaponry of the 14th century, admire the performance of the castle donjon assault, Trooper fights, hunters pentathlon, and the “robbers” football. Military historical songs were performed by Vaiguva, Ugniavijas. The event culminated in the Great fight of the evening between the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Teutonic Order Great. During the event Medininkai Castle was visited by a few thousand visitors.
