This year in Medininkai castle various historical reenactment clubs representing XIV-XV century will attend in year 1402. Medininkai castle siege.

Visitors are welcome to attend this event in 2014 September 6-7.

2014 September 6, Saturday.

12:00. Opening of the military encampment.

12:00-19:00. XIV – XV c. Military equipment interactive exposition. Visitors will be able to converse with reenacts, observe and try out the military equipment of middle age fighters. Historical reenacts will explain various details about the armour and the weapons from the armaments of XIV-XV c. Lithuania, Poland and Teutonic order.

13:00. Knight (boyar) tournament. I part:

  • Introduction of the participants. Chroniclers will present every deed and feat of every knight (boyar).

  • Election of the squire (armour-bearer). In unarmed duels every knight will choose the best armour-bearer.

  • Boyar's and armour-bearer's test of coherence in the duels. Lightly armoured boyar together with his squire will compete against their counterparts. The boyar will be armed only with a weapon, while his second with a shield.

  • Competition of unarmed boyar's retinue. Middle age ,,football“. A middle age ancestor of nowadays football.

  • Boyar-priest challenge. It is known that in the middle ages priest had not only sharp minds, but also deep throats...

16:30. Middle age music concert: ,,Lity Taler”(Belarus). Medieval music band ,,Lity Taler“ will perform with bagpipe, pipes, drums and other archaic music instruments. Visitors are welcome to learn to dance and practise their dancing skills.

17:00. The fight of boyar's armed retinue. Buhurtai. Buhurtai (buhurdicium) was a tournament in the Western Europe organized by armies, traveling nights, city and young folk. It is the competition to identify strongest warriors, real middle age sport. The rules: this buhurtai will be with full contact. Not recommended for faint of heart visitors. (Only from 18)

18:00. Medieval dance: ,,Mysteria mundi”(Lithuania). XIV-XV c. Western Europe's dances.

18:30. Presentation of Grand duchy of Lithuania and Teutonic order's armour and weapons. Visitors will see and compare simple sweaty peasants and German nobility. Their weapons and armour.

18:30. Great battle between Lithuania and Teutonic order.

19:00. Closure of the event.

2014 September 7, Sunday.

12:00. Opening of the event.

12:00-16:00. XIV – XV c. Military equipment interactive exposition. Visitors will be able to converse with reenacts, observe and try out the military equipment of middle age fighters. Historical reenacts will explain various details about the armour and the weapons from the armaments of XIV-XV c. Lithuania, Poland and Teutonic order.

13:00. Great knight (boyar) tournament. II part/final:

  • The challenge of the boyar's accuracy in the hunt. The knight will be hunting for a boar with a throwing spear. A terrible weapon for the boars and crusaders alike.

  • Mounted boyars' tournament. All Germans took the horses and to forfeit the tournament is a bad omen. Boyars will fight on their armour-bearers.

14:30. Middle age dance: “Mysteria mundi”(Lithuania). Lithuanian band will perform XIV-XV c. Western Europe music in medieval clothes.

15:00. Tournament. Duels of the dismounted boyars. Award ceremony of the victors. The final fight of the event. Fully armoured and armoured knights (boyars) will perform in duels. The best warrior will emerge and will be rewarded in award ceremony.

16:00. The closure of military encampment. The campaign is over. All victors are awarded, the beer is over, only bones and scraps remain. It is time to return to home. Till next campaign!

Exhibition ,,How this happened in the Great Battle... Exposé of Grunwald"

2014 on July 1st, Tuesday, 16PM, stand exhibition ,,How this happened in the Great Battle... Exposé of Grunwald" commemorating victory of Žalgiris battle was opened in Medininkai castle.

These stands arrived from 2010 National Museum Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania international exhibition, dedicated for the 600th anniversary of victory at Žalgiris.

The exhibition is dedicated to the manifestations of historical memory related to the common victory of the allied army of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland, the signs of this victory and their fixation by various means and forms from the 15th century to today, and the historical imagery of the heroes of Grunwald in historiographical traditions, literature, and fine art.

31 stand exhibition presents historical battle, which decided the fate of Lithuania, Poland and whole Europe region. It reveals details of Polish-Lithuanian alliance, shows the schemes of the battle, iconography, captured trophies and the memory of Žalgiris battle and its heroes Jogaila and Vytautas in XV-XVIth centuries' sources.

Exhibition was opened until August 29th.

An exhibition in Medininkai castle – „Kazimieras Barišauskas' photography and jewelry“

2014 April 30th Kazimieras Barišauskas' exhibition was opened in Medininkai castle (Medininkai village, Vilnius District Municipality).

In the exhibition author's jewelry creations, reconstructions of archeological decorations and 36 photographs from historical reenactment events held in Trakai history museum will be presented. Author participates in them for fifteen years. Due unsurpassed mastery in reconstructing archeological adornments K. Barišauskas is nicknamed ,,The jeweler of the manor“ by the colleagues. This time he reveals other talents. The artist have perfected not only the expressions of modern jewelry art, various decorative materials – mammoth's and walrus' fangs, nacre, gemstones – but also digital photo technologies.

K. Barišauskas' exhibition was opened until 2014 June 29th.
